Trip Itinerary

Day 1 Los Angeles

  • Evening flight to LAX (Los Angeles) and transfer to your hotel accommodation.

Day 2 Los Angeles to Bogota, Columbia

  • Travel to Los Angeles where a morning flight will take you to South America!
  • Overnight in Bogota, Columbia on the way to Peru.

Day 3 Bogota, Columbia to Cusco, Peru

  • Depart on a morning flight non-stop to Cusco, Peru. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel to relax and adjust to the higher altitude!
  • Afternoon & Evening explore the beautiful city of Cusco. Accommodations in downtown Cusco.
  • Breakfast included

Day 4 Cusco, Peru

  • Get Ready to explore Cusco today! Your exploration of this remarkable city takes place with an expert-guided tour. You will visit many of the archaeological sites and wonders in and around the city, including the Cusco Cathedral, the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Q’enko, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay.
  • Overnight at your Cusco hotel.

Day 5 Sacred Valley and Aguas Callientes

  • Sit back as you transfer to the Sacred Valley with a visit to Awnacancha and Cochahuasi along the way to learn about local culture. Explore the beautiful Peruvian Countryside with a tour to The Magical Sacred Valley. First, you will visit the town of Pisac, famous for its bustling market. Here you will have the opportunity to browse the beautiful handicrafts and Andean garments displayed for sale.
  • Next, you will visit the impressive ruins of Ollantaytambo. These magnificent ancient ruins serve as great vantage points to look out over the valley. Originally the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti during the Inca Empire, this site later served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui in the Inca’s final rebellion against the Spanish.
  • You will take a train ride to Aguas Callientes which sits at the base of Machu Picchu. The path winds along the river and mountain face, offering passengers dramatic views of the Andes. The foliage dramatically changes as the train approaches the meeting point of the Andes and the Amazon rainforest, providing visitors with a real sense of Peru’s diverse geography.
  • Accommodation in Aguas Callientes which sits at the base of Machu Picchu.
  • Breakfast and Lunch Included

Day 6 Machu Picchu

  • Early morning, head to the bus station in Aguas Calientes for a 20-minute ride up to the secluded citadel.
  • Meet your expert English-speaking guide for a tour of the most important sites in Machu Picchu, including the Intihuatana (Sun Stone), the Sun Temple, and the Room of Three Windows. You will be able to appreciate the intricate stonework of this amazing site. The giant stones were hauled by hand to the top of the mountain centuries ago, and yet their foundations still remain.
  • Overnight at your hotel at the base of Machu Picchu.
  • Breakfast Included

Day 7 Cusco to Iquitos

  • First thing in the Morning, take the train and bus back to Cusco.
  • Free time for shopping prior to your afternoon flight departure to Iquitos, Peru.
  • Overnight in the city of Iquitos.
  • Breakfast Included

Day 8 Iquitos to Amazon River Lodge

  • This morning, you will go up the Amazon River by boat to the Heliconia Amazon River Lodge. Sit back and take in life on the river as you transfer to the lodge. You’ll see little wooden boats along the way that locals use to get up and down the river.
  • Upon arrival to the lodge, get settled in and take a dip in the pool.
  • This jungle paradise will be your home for the next two nights.
  • Breakfast and  Dinner Included

Day 9 Amazon River Lodge

  • There are many activities to participate in at the lodge that are included. Some of the activities include, jungle walks with expert guides that show you the many uses of jungle plants and wildlife, spotting pink dolphins on the Amazon River, fishing for piranhas, and visit a jungle village with opportunity to view and hold sloths, monkeys, and snakes!
  • Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included

Day 10 Amazon River Lodge

  • Spend more time at the lodge today taking excursions or just relaxing.
  • Later in the day transfer back up the river to Iquitos where you will overnight in town.
  • Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included

Day 11 Iquitos to Lima to Los Angeles

  • A morning flight takes you from Iquitos back to Lima and then home.
  • Arrival in Los Angeles and transfer to your hotel or depart for home.
  • Breakfast Included

Day 12 Travel Home

  • Depart for home (Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, or other cities)

Trip Information

Zika Information

There is very little risk of contracting Zika in Cusco and Machu Picchu since the elevation is above 6,500′ feet. You should take precautions while at Iquitos, Peru and the Heliconia Amazon River Lodge since the elevation is around 250′.

Because Zika virus is primarily spread by mosquitoes, CDC recommends that travelers to Peru protect themselves from mosquito bites. The mosquitoes that spread Zika usually do not live at elevations above 6,500 feet (2,000 meters) because of environmental conditions. Travelers whose itineraries are limited to areas above this elevation are at minimal risk of getting Zika from a mosquito.
